Women in Songs (Secondary and adults - A2)
This didactic concert follows ten or more songs that have addressed the specific issues that affect women. The new Spanish education law means that gender and equality related issues should be present across the curriculum. Music is an ideal way to approach this topic.
The concert includes songs about abuse and conflict, "Woman in chains" (Tears for Fears), "Luka" (Suzanne Vega). Songs that reflect women confidently asserting themselves, from the 1960´s "These boots are made for walking" (Nancy Sinatra), the 1980´s "Girls just want to have fun" (Cyndi Lauper) to this millenium and Adele´s forceful "Rolling in the Deep". Songs that dwell on gender related feelings such as "Constant Craving (K. D. Lang) or Katy Perry´s feisty "I kissed a girl" and Taylor Swift's poignant song about the social peer pressure on girls in "Tied together with a smile".
Both "Baby, can I hold you" by Tracy Chapman and "Running up that hill" by Kate Bush look at the lack of communicaction and understanding in relationships.
This concert, now, would not be complete without the 2023 hit "Flowers" by Miley Cyrus.
