This didactic concert offers ten or more well known songs that have been inspired by historical moments or people from the twentieth century. It fits in with the history curriculum for 4ºE.S.O./ Bachiller.

Topics include the First and Second world wars ("All Together Now" by The Farm and "Enola Gay" -by O.M.D.) and the Cold war ("Russians" by Sting, now frighteningly topical again) while Marilyn Monroe ("Candle in the wind" by Elton John) and Martin Luther King ("Pride "-by U2) are among the people who have inspired great songs. The Beatles "Revolution" captures the mood of rebellion (both political and social) in the 1960´s and  Peter Gabriel takes us into the history of apartheid in 1970´s South Africa with  "Biko".  Billy Joel´s "Goodnight Saigon"  recounts the horror of the Vietnam war while  George Michael´s  version of "Miss Sarajevo" during the war in the 1990´s in Bosnia delves into the effects of  conflict on teenage girls. Finally we move into the 21st century as  Bruce Springsteen follows the story of a New York city fireman  during the events of 11 September 2201  in "The Rising".

We´ll look at what these and other songs say about these events and people and how the music invokes the mood and feelings associated with them.
