If Bob Dylan can win a Nobel prize for literature for his song writing, then it can be no surprise that literature has inspired some of the great rock and pop songs.

This didactic concert browses through ten or more songs based on works of literature. From classics such as Emily Bronte´s "Wuthering Heights" (Kate Bush) to Elton John´s "Rocket Man" ( inspired by a short story by Ray Bradbury) to Led Zeppelin´s "Battle of Evermore" that seeks to capture the epic mood of Tolkein´s Lord of the Rings to ... the Bible that galvanised "gospel" music (without whose influence Rock and Roll would never have emerged as it did).

Great artists  such as Dire Straits (Private Investigations,  influenced by Raymond Chandler´s detective novels) , The Rolling Stones (Sympathy for the Devil, roused by a Russian novel - "The Master and Margarita) The Police (Tea in the Sahara  inspired by Paul Bowles' novel "The Sheltering Sky", among others, have all  been moved by books to create unique hit songs.

All the songs strive to "translate" the feelings and moods from the ink on paper to sounds in the air.  Hopefully by the end of the concert some will be inspired to pick up one of the  books...
