Animals in Songs - (Adults/ Infants/Primary) A1

This is a fun concert that explores how animals have inspired great songs across many different musical genres. Although the theme is perfect for infants and primary pupils there’s no doubt that it is also great entertainment for adult learners of English - given some of the song meanings and subtle analogies.

Naturally there are songs featuring the animals that share our homes. The Rockabilly “Stray cat strut” by The Stray Cats and the new wave pop song “Lovecats” by The Cure are matched by their canine counterparts “Walking the dog” by The Rolling Stones and the dance pop song “Who let the dogs out” by Baha Men. For adults there is also John Hiatt’s beautiful Americana folk song “My dog and me”.

From the farmyard we have Louis Jordan’s swing song “Ain’t nobody here but us chickens”, the Bad Manners ska version of “Wooly bully” and we’ll take a ride on “A horse with no name” by America. For adult learners there’s also the prog-rock “Sheep” by Pink Floyd.  

Up in the sky we’ll “Fly like an eagle” with the Steve Miller Band and contemplate "Birds” by Imagine Dragons.

Wild animals are represented by one of the first ever rock and roll songs “See you later alligator” by Bill Haley and there’s some feline inspiration with “The Eye of the tiger” by Survivor and Katy Perry’s “Roar”. Finally for primary learners of English we try to “Walk the dinosaur” with Queen Latifah’s hip hop version of the song for the film Frozen.
